Helping schools understand and support student wellbeing

The B.E.N. (Biorhythms, Exercise and Nutrition) programme was created to help schools and young people understand the link between sleep, nutrition, exercise, and overall wellbeing. By giving students a simple tool to record their daily routines, B.E.N. aims to encourage healthier habits and provide schools with anonymised insights at a cohort level.

We are proud to have worked with the B.E.N. team and mohunky to build the technical foundation for the app, complementing their design and user experience expertise. From the initial specification through to ongoing feature development, our role has focused on creating a secure, scalable platform that works for both students and educators.

The mobile app, available for iOS and Android, makes it quick and engaging for students to track their daily wellbeing activities. Behind the scenes, anonymised data is collected and aggregated, giving schools access to meaningful reports without exposing individual student information.

To ensure long-term flexibility, we built the platform on a modular architecture with APIs and microservices, allowing new features such as advanced reporting and personalised insights to be introduced without disrupting existing functionality. A cloud-hosted backend, paired with automated CI/CD deployment pipelines, ensures that updates can be rolled out smoothly across schools of all sizes.

The result is a platform that is easy for students to use every day, while giving schools valuable insights to support their wellbeing strategies. The project has already been recognised within the industry, with the B.E.N. app shortlisted for an award celebrating innovation in health and wellbeing technology.

With a roadmap of new features planned, B.E.N. continues to grow through a collaborative effort between hayman.dev, mohunky, and the B.E.N. team.
